Can Claude Opus 5.5 Create Videos? A Practical Guide
Yes, Claude can contribute to a finished video. The useful distinction is between a model and the product around it. A model name does not tell you how to upload an image, revise a scene, or obtain an MP4. Start with the animation you need to deliver, then choose a workflow that lets you inspect those steps.
The model and three practical workflows
Anthropic introduced Opus 5.5 on September 22, 2026. That identifies the model, not the capabilities of every video service using it. Motion AI Video is a dedicated motion graphics workflow: supply text and up to four reference images, generate a preview, request changes in chat, and export from your browser. Its account is separate from Claude.
In Motion AI Video, Claude helps create the animation, while the app provides preview, chat revisions, and MP4 export. This workflow suits animated text, diagrams, and product screenshots.
Anthropic’s Opus 5.5 announcement
Two other routes are worth distinguishing. Claude Motion beta provides animation and MP4 export for eligible Team and Enterprise accounts; Enterprise access requires organization enablement. Claude Code with Remotion uses a video project, Node.js, and a local preview. That route involves maintaining a development environment. Neither description establishes how a separate product is built.
Give the scene one job
Imagine a reporting dashboard with a menu, chart, and Create report button. Your goal is to show a new user where to begin. Establish the whole screen, highlight that existing control, add one benefit headline, and hold the ending. This gives the animation a reading order. Moving the menu, chart, and headline simultaneously would make that order harder to follow.
In Motion AI Video, choose 15 seconds and the aspect ratio for the destination before generating. The available lengths are 10, 15, and 30 seconds, with 16:9, 9:16, and 1:1 frames. Upload a clean PNG, JPEG, or WebP screenshot of at most 5 MiB. Use demonstration data and remove private information before uploading.
Write a brief you can check
Create a 15-second dashboard announcement using the supplied screenshot. Keep its text, numbers, and layout unchanged. Begin with the whole screen visible. Add a subtle highlight around the existing Create report button, then place the headline Your next report starts here outside the image. Use restrained motion and leave the final headline readable for three seconds. Do not invent interface states, testimonials, or performance figures.
The screenshot can be drawn as the original image with animation layered around it. A preservation instruction still needs inspection: it is not a guarantee of automatic cutouts or precisely locked regions. Compare labels and values with the source, especially when the image moves or becomes smaller. If accuracy suffers, simplify the composition before adding more effects.
Make one small, testable revision
If the highlight arrives too early, change that moment rather than replacing the whole brief. Chat revisions and version history let you compare the result with the earlier version. Watch from the beginning after each revision: a correct opening frame does not prove that timing and continuity remain correct throughout.
Delay the button highlight until the opening view has settled. Keep the screenshot, headline wording, colors, and three-second final hold unchanged. Only change when the highlight begins.
Check the file and the working cost
Review accuracy, reading time, and the main focus of each moment. Motion AI Video exports 1080p, 30 fps H.264 MP4 in a browser with the necessary encoding support; export uses no credits. Open the actual file and check cropping and the final hold. Available audio options include built-in music, uploaded audio, and AI voiceover; listen to the exported mix as well.
Do you need a Claude subscription? No. Motion AI Video uses its own account and payments. Registration includes no free generation. The USD 5 single purchase covers one new video, while revisions and AI voiceover require subscription credits. Budget for the review cycle, not just the first preview, and check current pricing before starting.
Check plans and generation costs
Does the model label guarantee editable video? No: test one specific revision in the product. Should you choose a model before writing the brief? Begin with the message and source assets. A clear brief lets you judge any available workflow by the result you actually need.
